I used A Happy Stitch espadrille kit that I purchased on Etsy and I sourced my leather from my friend Treasure over at NikkiandMallory. Go ahead and follow her and be sure to turn on post notifications because I missed it last time when she sold are her leather scraps from bag making.

I also bought some black leather from Treasure to add straps to my espadrilles but for now, I love them the way they are so I may use this leather for another pair. The kit comes with EVERYTHING you need. Soles, thread, needles, point turner, pins, wax, interfacing, and needle pullers. For the lining, I used black broadcloth. To sew the fabric onto the sole I doubled my thread and I used the smaller straight needle in the kit. I went on youtube and looked at a few videos including this one to see a blanket stitch. The booklet that comes with the kit has the written instructions but I am more of a visual learner.

I used my sewing machine to sew the lining and leather together. You could hand sew them together if you do not have a sewing machine. I am still figuring out the best way to add my tag to the sole but you know that it is a must for me! If you have any questions just comment below and I will answer them for you! I can’t wait to see some of you make your own shoes! I hope this inspired you to give it a try.
