Fringe-y: My First Up-Cycle

So Goodwill was so good to me when I found that yellow suit that I decided to make visiting more often a priority. I found this black knit set in a size XL and I immediately knew that I could up-cycle it into something I would love.

Here are some photos of what the set look like before I did my magic!

For the skirt I removed the elastic waistband using my seam ripper to open up the casing and then I took the skirt in from the sides so that I could keep the original split in the back. As for the top, I took in the side and arm seams and then I made the collar wider so that I could make it off the shoulder. Apparently I got a little scissor happy and made the collar too wide so I decided to improvise– hence the added back detail!

I was super excited about being able to keep the original fringe trim that came on this knit set! It is possible to keep certain features of garments when up-cycling and Candice of CandiceAyala.com taught me that!

Also, let’s have a moment of appreciation for this lovely hump…my calf that is! And I promise my eyes are open in the photo below- but hey that’s my signature look so it seems. Lol!

Would you attempt an up-cycle? I would love to know your thoughts on my very first up-cycle below!

I think the scissor happiness created a great look on the back! Oh, and yes, what a calf muscle, lady!
