So as I planned my trip to New Orleans to attend the Essence Festival I decided I wanted all my outfits to be made by me. I decided to make my very first two piece outfit and I must say I am in love with it and will be making more of these! You can find the fabric I used here.
For the shorts I used Simplicity 1165 View D and left off adding any trim- although I may use trim on my next pair! The pattern is very simple and easy for a beginner sewer to follow along. This was actually one of the first patterns I ever used and I made View A. The shorts are a total of four pattern pieces- the waist band, 2- front pieces, 2- back pieces, and 2- pockets.
For the kimono simply follow my step-by- step tutorial below and you will be rocking your very own two piece in no time! Below is a sneak peak of the full look…stay tuned for the next blog post!
- Cut a piece of fabric that measures 84″ by 36″
- Fold the fabric in half with the folded edge at the top and cut both sleeves at once (indicated in red)
- Unfold the fabric and sew the sleeves and side seams (indicated in blue)
- Cut the front opening only on the top layer (indicated in red)
- Hem all unfinished edges (indicated in blue) by folding over 1/4″ twice and pressing then sew
- Complete all steps and boom!
Keep it Classy and Stylish…until next time!
