A Dress for the Occassion

So ladies (and if you are not a lady tell a lady) I attended this event called Curvy, Curly Conscious in Miami. It was AMAZING and necessary! There are two more upcoming events in ATL and L.A. and believe me when I say it is WORTH traveling to! It is a self-love day party where you get a chance to relax, meet other women, and learn how to put yourself FIRST! The founder of CCC is my love Shelah Marie and ever since I started following her on IG and SnapChat I admired how she kept things real and after meeting her I can say she’s authentic. I will be doing an interview with her so stay tuned for the opportunity to learn more about Shelah Marie and CCC!

So leading up to the event I decided I wanted to sew up something to wear. I had this floral printed, very Miami looking, fabric for a few weeks and I knew it wanted to be a dress but I wasn’t sure how I would do that seeing that it was very sheered. I made a visit to Hobby Lobby and one of the ladies working there lead me to the most beautiful solid navy blue fabric- soft on the skin and perfect for lining.

I started with McCall 7543 view D and for the sleeves I used view B/C. I also used a tutorial by Brittany J Jones here on how to line the sleeves and then I lined the bodice by joining the bodices pieces only at the top after sewing together the front and back pieces of the lining and main fabric.
